Hello everyone,
I am running PostgreSQL which I installed from source on the Slackware 14 Linux distribution. My PostgreSQL-Database server is running fine but now I would like to create a database which needs to be in UTF-8 format.
I tried the following as user "postgres".
Code:
bash-4.2$ /usr/local/pgsql/bin/createdb kivitendo -E=UTF.8
createdb: database creation failed: ERROR: encoding "UTF8" does not match locale "en_US"
DETAIL: The chosen LC_CTYPE setting requires encoding "LATIN1".
Code:
bash-4.2# locale
LANG=en_US
LC_CTYPE="en_US"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US"
LC_TIME="en_US"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_US"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US"
LC_PAPER="en_US"
LC_NAME="en_US"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US"
LC_ALL=
I must say that these things about locales and character sets and Template0 and Template1 are confusing me. Could anyone please provide clarification on these issues?
