copying microsoft fonts to mandrake

In the past, I have managed to install the M$ true type fonts in my mandrake install by going to the corefonts page at sourceforge and following the instructions.

It now appears that following the instructions "per se" doesn't work, as I dual boot XP and mandrake, I have always followed the instruction to open the msttcorefonts-1.3-3.spec file and following the instructions changed the option of "no" to read "yes" so I get the "tahoma" font as well at the "corefonts".

I then try the instruction for $rpmbuild -bb msttcorefonts-1.3-3.spec and it start's downloading the fonts, but when it gets to the last bit for wget http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...US/IELPKTH.CAB I am getting a "404" message and a bit about a bad exit from /var/tmp/<whatever the script name is>.

So to get round this, I have gone into the wind0w$ fonts directory and copied that and put it into /usr/share/fonts/ttf in the hope that I should be able to use the fonts from there.

Well, the only way that it seems that I can use them is to then copy them further into /usr/share/fonts/ttf/western and then I am able to select them in KDE or opera.

So after all that, is there any way that I can copy and use all of the fonts that I originally copied from my wind0w$ install into one of the directories (all at once, as opposed to copying them one by one) - bearing in mind that NOT all of the originally copied fonts show up as "true type fonts" and quite a lot of them are in the directory as .fon which I understand is an .exe file e.g. 85140emr.fon - or is it possible to convert these into true type fonts to be able to use them and then move/copy/whatever or, do thesee "non true type fonts" need to be put somewhere else to be able to use/select them ?

Oh and sorry if this post is a bit long and drawn, but I couldn't think of anyway to abbreviate it.

regards

John

Also does it matter whether I copy the micr0$0ft fonts into /usr/share/fonts/ttf/western or into /usr/share/fonts/ttf/decoratives ? or even the true type fonts into /western and the other .fon (.exe) fonts into decoratives ?

But just so I can still select and use them?

regards

John
