Copying folders and the files in them

Why are the files inside a folder not copied and transferred to another location such as to a flash drive? When I do this for a bunch of folders by using Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C and then Ctrl-V, only the folder names appear in the new location but each folder is empty!

[My OS is MEPIS 8.0]

Thanks

It sounds like you're using a GUI to select files. Do you get the same result when you right-click and use the copy/paste commands that way?

Beyond that, using the terminal is always a solid method.... cp -a [source] [destination]
