convert those downloaded subtitles files?

Anybody know how to convert those downloaded subtitles files for use with dvdauthor's spumux program? I mean like the ones on www.subtitles-divx.net. Supposedly you can use them with a software movie player. I want to merge them with vobs on dvds. Thanks ahead of time.

Solved

Okay, I had a buggy copy of spumux, I downloaded the latest dvdauthor source and compiled, works fine now.
