Confusion on burning CDs on DVD burner

Ok, I've got a NEC 3520A DVD burner and I've been trying to burn some data CD-Rs on it. I don't have dvd+rw-tools installed yet and I've upgraded to cdrecord 2.01. According to the dvd+rw-tools doc, cdrecord is still used for CD recording.

Will I need to have dvd+rw-tools installed before I can burn CD-Rs on my burner?

I've been trying Simple CDR-X and Graveman with no luck.

Thanks!

Peace...

you don't need it if you just want to write cd. The best frontend available around right now is K3b if you want to try something else.
