Configuring Internet Access

A first-time user of Linux, I recently installed Red Hat 9 on a Toshiba laptop, and connected to my Verizon router via Cat5 cable. I am able to ping my DNS server, and any site whose IP address I can find. However, when I try to use a browser (Mozilla) it will not connect to any site (even when I type the appropriate IP address in the address space, although it will translate the address into the appropriate site name).
Based on the above, I'm assuming the problem's with my browser settings (or maybe with the firewall?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Since you said you can ping any site when you know the IP address one problem seems to be name resolution. The second problem (entering the IP in the browser reveals nothing) looks like a firewall issue (if you have not configured a proxy server, etc in your browser).

What is the output of the following commands?
  • iptables -L -nv
  • cat /etc/resolv.conf

yes, if 'nslookup' works then your name resolution is okay, but the packets are being stopped somewhere.....
