./configure step fails installing shn plugin for xmms

The ./configure step is ending with this:

checking for XMMS - version >= 1.0.0... no
*** The xmms-config script installed by XMMS could not be found.
*** If XMMS was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the XMMS_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to xmms-config.
configure: error: *** XMMS >= 1.0.0 not installed - please install first ***

XMMS v 1.2.10 is installed - in /usr/bin - but xmms-config is installed in /home/curt/.xmms so I tried:
./configure --prefix=/home/curt/.xmms
but it ends with the same message.

Googling on "setting environment variables" hasn't helped on how to set the XMMS_CONFIG environment variable to the path. Probably because I'm not using the proper term for what I want to know.

What is it I'm doing wrong please?

This is under Ubuntu 4.10 if that matters.
Thanks
gd

--prefix=etc... is the installation prefix - i.e. where make install puts the files, not where your stuff is kept.
If xmms-config is in /home/curt/.xmms/xmms-config then do:
Code:
export XMMS_CONFIG=/home/curt/.xmms/xmms-config
./configure
if that still doesn't work try altering how much of the path you pass to the XMMS_CONFIG environment variable. Try removing the xmms-config part of it or something.

Thanks for the quick reply!

That worked once I left off xmms-config.

Now I'm getting the same message about GTK+ but I'm not finding the config file.

find and locate gtk-config return nothing and there's no .gtk file in /home/curt
which is where I had expected to find it.

Code:
gtk -v
returns gtk: command not found - same for gtk+, GTK and GTK+

Code:
which GTK+
just returns me to the prompt.
Code:
locate GTK+
returns:
/usr/share/xfce/palettes/GTK+Default
/usr/share/xfce/palettes/GTK+Default2
...not what I need!

Where is this file supposed to be?

Turns out to be xmms-dev that I needed.
Thanks for the tip!
