Compiler Problem

I'm trying to compile and install Samba (although this most likely has nothing to do with amba since it's happened with other sources), but when running './configure' I get this:
creating cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

I've done a 'find / -name gcc', 'find / -name cc', and 'find / -name g++', but I am coming up with nothing.

I downloaded GCC 3.2.3, but when running 'configure' I get this:

:/tmp/gcc-3.2.3/objdir # ../configure
Configuring for a i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld host.
Created "Makefile" in /tmp/gcc-3.2.3/objdir using "mt-frag"
../configure: cc: command not found
*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.

EDIT:

If I try to install the GCC rpm, I get this:

# rpm -ivh gcc-3.2-7.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
cpp = 3.2-7 is needed by gcc-3.2-7
binutils >= 2.12.90.0.7-1 is needed by gcc-3.2-7
glibc-devel >= 2.2.90-12 is needed by gcc-3.2-7
libgcc >= 3.2-7 is needed by gcc-3.2-7
/sbin/install-info is needed by gcc-3.2-7
rpmlib(PartialHardlinkSets) <= 4.0.4-1 is needed by gcc-3.2-7
