Comparing Versions of Open SUSE, from 10 to 11.1, & also other Distro's

I would like to start a discussion on the pro's & con's of Linux Open SUSE Versions 10.3 to 11.1 & also other comparable Distro's, I have not seen this done before, I think it could be interesting & useful, not only for myself, but also for other people who are considering using “Linux” in preference to “Windows.
I will post this on both the SUSE Board & also the Software Board.
I first tried Linux by using Red Hat 9 some years ago, but as an average Windows user I found that it was far to complicated to use easily & I did not want to spend much time learning.
When Open SUSE 10.0 was released I tried it out & found that I could cope with it with the help of some books & help from this Forum. I persevered and with the release of 10.3, I found that at last I was able to use “Linux” for everything, except maybe for some old favorite games of my children, such as the Tombs & Indiana Jones, which only ran well on Win XP.
When Open SUSE 11.0 was released I installed it, thinking happily, that it would be a big improvement, as although 10.3 is good, it's a bit unwieldy. On the install of 10.3 there is a choice as to which app's to install, but not knowing which ones are essential, I had little choice but to install them all, consequently the overload. Unhappily I found that far from being better than 10.3, 11.0, did not work nearly as well. It was quicker & easier to install but I had lots of problems with Amule, Audacity, & Kaffeine in particular, I was struggling with these when 11.1 was released so I immediately changed to that. However I found that 11.1 gave the same prob's as 11.0 and after struggling for some while, gave up in disgust and went back to 10.3 which with the help of Jem's “Hacking Open SUSE 10.3” & also Howtoforge,s “The Perfect Desktop” copes with 99.9% of my computing needs, I need Win XP only for some Games.
I did contact “Novell” asking why SUSE 11 gave problems which 10.3 does not have, but no joy.
I would very much like to hear the opinions & experiences, of people, as to why SUSE 11.0 & 11.1, which supposedly are upgrades, do not work as well as 10.3.
I also would like opinions on & experiences with other Distro's, as relates to somebody like myself, being averagely competent, but still needing the help of people on the Forums.
Generally it seems on the “Net”, that “Open Suse” is rated as one of the best and easiest to use of the Distro's, for the average user, but I would like other opinions, is their another Distro' which is better?

My setup is fairly standard:-
ASUS Mobo. On board sound.
AMD Athlon + 3200
1GB Memory
Gforce 3 Graphics
Phillips DVD/CD Rewriter
HDD's in trays to enable the use of various OS's & Distro's.
19” LCD Monitor.
Using the 32bit Suse.
Thanks.
