compare two file trees


is there a command to compare two file trees? or should i create a script to do this?

Per this serverfault thread, dirdiff might do what you need.

If you're after a command-line tool, there is also diffoscope.

i installed both to try them out. Ubuntu has them both, but OMG diffoscope has a massive bunch of dependency packages (225 new packages for me).

Well, diffoscope can much more than just compare two directory trees. See examples on https://diffoscope.org
