cmake../ ?

What does cmake../ actually mean?I often find this
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ../
make

Why do we need separate build directory?May be to separate .o from source code or?

That's just how the most "cmake builds" are set up.
( A very few "cmake builds" do not require a build/ directory.)

the "build" folder is a GREAT idea
that way you do NOT "f-up" the git or svn or cvs folder and the code in it
