Angry Clonezilla - partition from one computer to another

Hi all - Clonezilla is a great program and have used it many times but have hit a problem. Copying an image from one computer to an external hard drive and then installing it to a second computer. OK if the image is from sda1 to sda1 on the second computer but cannot install it to the second computer if I want to install it to sda5 (sda2 is the extended partition) sda1 is taken up by Windows W2k and want to dual boot with the new image installed (setting up the boot process is not difficult once the image is installed). But how? Thanks in anticipation!

Are you copying the image to an external hard drive and then attaching the external drive to a second computer or trying to copy the image from the external to a partition on the second computer? Have you tried this and failed? Error messages?

YANCEK: The answer to your questions is YES. The important thing is that if I copy this image to the 1st partition ie, sda1 there is no trouble it installs. It was made from sda1 on the first computer. When I try to install it to sda5 it comes up with "Failed to restore partition image /home ....etc /H310809-2008-08-31-15-img/sda5* to /dev/sda5! Maybe this image is corrupt".The image is not corrupt as the image will install to sda1 on the second computer. One would assume I am not ticking the right boxes in 'Clonezilla advanced extra parameters | Mode: restoreparts'
Any further clues would be appreciated

Uhhh..., well that was an either/or question so the answer can't be YES.

First Part of ?: Are you copying the image to an external hard drive and then attaching the external drive to a second computer and trying to boot that partition on the second computer? If this is the case, any other OS on the computer?

OR:

Second Part of ?: Are you copying the image to an external drive and then trying to copy the image from the external drive to a partition on the second computer?

What partitions do you have on the second computer? Can you use a Linux Live CD to run fdisk -l as root and post.

Hi, I encounter the same problem but a different way.

I change my hard disk by one more large capacity.

Have a laptop where only Mandriva 2010 free is installed. Have following partitions :

/dev/sda1 Linux /
/dev/sda2 Extended
/dev/sda5 /home
/dev/sda6 swap

I did 2 images with clonezilla for the both partition (maybe the sda1 and sda2 ? because clonezilla show me only 2 hd partitions).

The image is on a usb hard disk as image files.

I put the new hard disk on the computer. On that hard disk I already re-install Windows XP. Did new partitions to install Mandriva but I would like to put the / and /home partition from the other hard disk.

The partitions on the new hard disk are :
/dev/sda1 FAT32 Windows XP
/dev/sda2 Extended
/dev/sda5 /
/dev/sda6 swap
/dev/sda7 /home
/dev/sda3 FAT32

I tried to recover both images, started with image from sda1 (old hdd) and sda5 (old hdd) but with both I have the same error partition may be corrupted.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks.
