Clonezilla can't mount drive

I'm working as a paid intern & we are trying to get clonezilla to copy a disk image on a laptop to an external SSD drive. Every time we get to the point of choose to mount the target disk it gives us an error about not being able to mount it.

The laptop drive we are trying to clone is a Windows 10 Home NTFS file system. I've tried checking the target external drive with gparted, reformatting it & trying different USB ports but none of that has worked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Clonezilla does not mount drives.
Clonezilla does copy data from one drive or partition to another drive or partition or writes to a file on an already mounted file system but never mounts or dismounts devices.

The user must know the device name and use that within clonezilla.

Some laptops have an encryption on disk.

Windows has been able to make live state images for recovery.
