Clam AV questions

I have searched clam av's website but i am not sure if it can do what i want it to do.

I found a "distro" on freshmeat that is a cut down version of knoppix (not DSL) and has ntfs write support, and the clam av program, My question is can i use this to remove WINDOWS viruses, and how safe is that?

as far as i knew ntfs write support was NOT supported, or was Not recomended, so if Clam AV did find a windows virus and deleted it, would that destroy the file system?

I am a computer technician and the amount of windows virsuses that we are getting, and some that screw windows up beyond repair, are really really annoying, and if we can remove some byother means it might speed up service times.

Writing to an NTFS filesystem is still in beta; it has the capacity to mess up your filesystem but probably won't.

But ClamAV on its own will not remove viruses; it will only report files that contain viruses, so you're pretty safe there.

By its own admission, it's not as good as buying a commercial virus scanner in terms of number of viruses actually detected, but running a ClamAV sweep is certainly not going to be a bad move. It's not impossible that it will find viruses that a given commercial scanner won't.
