how do i do checkdisk in linux
i want to check my windows partition for disk errors

testdisk
man testdisk (looks appropriate)
also look at fdisk, cfdisk, gpart, parted to see what they do.

without the partition mounted,
dosfsck /dev/hdX whatever the partition is.
that will do a readonly check.
dosfsck -a /dev/hdX will actually fix the errors.
