CentOS 5.2 install shows only 2 screen resolutions

Installed Cento 5.2 DVD in VMWare workstation 6.5 on an XP machine. This VmWare has successfully installed over 10 of the major (and some minor) Linux distros where they detect the video and offer numerous screen resolution choices.
However, this CentOS only offers 2 resolutions after install (either LiveCD or DVD) - 800x600 and 640x480. I have a 21" WS monitor and would like to see more in the monitor.
Any pointers will be appreciated. Here is my xorg.conf:

Have you installed the VMware tools and run them? On my CentOS guest installs, that has been required to get a decent range of screen resolution options. I think that by default the virtual graphics adapter is fairly limited and VMware tools are needed to make it reasonably functional.

Thanks HangDog 42.
Am detailing my experience in case anyone else gets the same problem...

I'm a newer Linux user (long-time Windows) looking for a distro to put on a desktop - so I was trying all the top ones listed at DistroWatch (20 so far!).- also looking to see which were easy-to-install and user-friendly.
What I had to do in this CentOS case -thanks HangDog42- (and none of the other distros !!) was to install from a DVD (not .iso), and tell VMWare that this was a RedHat 5.0 install (Install VM tools not an option if installed as "other"). All the other major distros had NO problems.
Then Install it:
1. Double click on the desktop "VMWare Tools" icon.
2. Run the "VMwareTools-6.5.0-118166.i386.rpm" file (right-click and "Open with Software installer".- extracts files to 2 folders on the desktop (usr and etc) after install with a warning to run a configure file (vmware-config-tools.pl)
3. Change to the root folder (in Terminal "cd /")
4. "Su" in
5. Navigate to /home/mine/Desktop/usr/bin
6. Run the file in Terminal - long log with prompt to set starting resolution
7. Reboot, and Lo and Beheld, the extra mouse capabilities and Screen resolutions were enabled.

Thanks again - I had never had to install the VMWare in Linux before and am feeling mighty proud...

...g

Congrats!

20 distros? Man, that is one serious survey. I guess I haven't messed with that many distros in VMware, (heh, I run Slackware, what else is there to try?) but I've always found that the VMware tools has made operation smoother, even if it isn't absolutely required.
