People, how do I configure my fstab file so I can mount my CDROM as an average user, not just a root?
Here is what I have right now for my CDROM in fstab:
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 1 0 0?
I tryed couple of things that I read, but they don't seem to be working, any help?
You'll first need to know what device name your cdrom has been named. It will be something like hdb..hdc...hdd etc. You can find it a couple different ways. I usually just type dmesg |more and find what it is there. It'll be right by your harddrive, usually to the effect of hda. After that just edit your /etc/fstab witha generic line such as this:

Sorry, if that is too generic for your distro and you the device is as your fstab says /dev/cdrom (which probably points to hd(?))
Then you can just change the ownership depending on who uses it. As I have admitted to in another post, this is the more proper way to change the ownership of a device. Go here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&threadid=8911 This thread will show you how to do that very easily. Sorry for any confusion and posting twice.
What line would I change on:
/dev/hd(?) /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide
please help, i am new, i need to be able to mount CDROM under user 'cause i just installed StarCraft with WINE an i am exited to try to play it. I try to get things done by myself, it's just one of those simple things that you get stock on forewere once in a while. Help!
you will need to add this to your fstab file and it should work. make sure that the /mnt/cdrom directory exists and replace the /dev/hd(?) with whatever your cdrom drive is. from the looks of it it could be /dev/hdb but you could just try /dev/cdrom.
if these don;t work then you'll have to try /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd as well.
