This article gives a good rundown: https://itsfoss.com/best-linux-screen-recorders/

The only one I've used is recordmydesktop. It worked quite nicely, but it's been almost a decade since I used it.

I installed Kazam and the audio didn't record.

What command line do I use to uninstall Kazam in terminal?

I will try to get recordmydesktop next and try it.

if you don't use pulseaudio (or jackaudio) the audio won't record. that's normal.

I tried several. ffmpeg's x11grab does not play well with compositing manager and makes a lot of artifacts, some others had major performance problems (I have a very weak CPU) or problems with building with modern headers, and finally I stopped on simplescreenrecorder. AFAIR, it writes audio from microphone by default, so to record the computer's output sound you should pick some of Monitor audio devices instead.

VLC can save a video play back - Media -> Convert/Save lets you specify the source and the output type
