cant format / partitions

I just build a Dual AMd 2600MP Machine, with 2 200GB Maxtor Hdd on a raid card.. I setup the Hardware raid with the card mirror two drives.. Now I 'm setting up the Software RAid in Redhat 8.0.. //dev/hde1-/dev/hdf1 = md0 = mirror 1024MB = /boot (ext3) dev/hde2-/dev/hdf2=md1 =mirror 2048MB = swap /dev/hde3 -hdf3 = md2 =mirror (rest space ) = / (ext3) but everytime it suppose to format the drives.. its gimme an error says "it can not format md2, this is serious problem. and press enter key to restart.." does anyone know how to fix this? thanks..

That's because you dont want to run a software RAID1 on a functional hardware RAID1 array. Once the drives have been mirrored by the RAID card's BIOS they are presented to the OS (provided the drivers are correctly configured) as one device.

thats is what I thought it should show up in redhat as 1 drive.. but it showed up as two drives.. thats why I had to use software raid 1...
