cannot stat

im trying to compile a program from source, and i keep getting the error when i do "make install":

cp: cannot stat `etc/00-xsvc.permissions': No such file or directory

the longer error report looks like:
### Installing xsvc.ko
+ cp -f xsvc.ko /lib/modules/2.6.10-5-386/extra/
+ chmod 755 /lib/modules/2.6.10-5-386/extra/xsvc.ko
+ depmod
+ set +x
cp: cannot stat `etc/00-xsvc.permissions': No such file or directory
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/xig/xsvc/xsvc-kbuild'

im doing all the proper steps, and ive never had this problem before, but ive just upgraded my distro, and now it wont install.

Well, it's telling you that the file etc/00-xsvc.permissions doesn't exist in the /usr/src/xig/xsvc/xsvc-kbuild directory. Does the etc directory exist? If it exists does it have the right permissions and is the file in there? If it is, does it have the right permissions?
