I have a USB stick/pen drive and an external hard drive (which uses a USB connection).
Both work fine except that Konqueror will not let me create new folders or files on them. I can create folders from a command prompt using mkdir and I can drag files across from other locations using Konqueror. I can also delete files from Konqueror
i understand ur problem. It likely bcoz of having virus on your usb stick. check it for any virus in ur usb and clean it other wise just format ur usb and try then it will work fine... got my point??????

How are you "trying to create folders or files"? What error message to you receive?
Have you tried starting konqueror from a terminal, and seeing if it throws up any error messages there when you are unable to create files?
This may just be "weird, but acceptable behaviour" in konqueror. I am using KDE 3.5.2, konqueror 3.5.2.
I have konqueror configured for "Show navigation panel" (F9), with a view of the "Root folder" in the left pane, and files in the right pane.
If I plug in my USB stick, it is mounted at /media/sda1 and both its user and group are assigned (presumably by udev) to me.
If open my USB stick in konqueror, in the right pane I can see 5 directories and several files.
If I R-click on one of these directories, I am offered many options, but not "Create New...".
If I R-click on whitespace in the R-pane, I am offered "Create New...".
If I open one of the directories, and then click on white-space, I am offered "Create New...".
R-Click behaviour in the left pane ("Navigation Panel") is a little different.
If I expand the tree in the left pane to show /media/sda1/Directory and then R-clock on either sda1 or Directory, I am offered "Create New...".
So the options I am offered for a R-click seems to depend on whether I click in the left or right pane. Additionally, if I R-click on a directory in the L-pane, that I do not have write permissions for, I am not offered "Create New...".
