Cannot access Samba via wireless

My LAN contains

- Centos8 server
- Windows 10 workstation
- Mac workstation

All of the above can share files with each other.

A Macbook cannot connect via wireless however it can ping the above three.

smb.conf:

Quote:
# See smb.conf.example for a more detailed config file or
# read the smb.conf manpage.
# Run 'testparm' to verify the config is correct after
# you modified it.

[global]
workgroup = WIN10_GROUP
security = user
netbios name = LINUX8
server role = standalone server
passdb backend = tdbsam
name resolve order = bcast host lmhosts wins
# encrypt passwords = yes

[public]
path = /tmp
public = yes
writable = no
printable = no

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = Yes
writeable = Yes

[todd]
path = /samba/todd
browseable = no
read only = Yes
force create mode = 0660
force directory mode = 2770

[html]
comment = www content
path = /var/www/html
valid users = tcary
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
guest ok = no
read only = no
Any suggestions for trouble shooting would be appreciated

Your smb.conf does not contain a 'hosts allow' line in the [global] section.
Quote:
# This option is important for security. It allows you to restrict
# connections to machines which are on your local network. The
# following example restricts access to two C class networks and
# the "loopback" interface. For more examples of the syntax see
# the smb.conf man page
; hosts allow = 192.168.1. 192.168.2. 127.

By default samba will accept connections from any host and if the server is behind a router it isn't necessarily required.

The default is encrypt passwords = yes and all your clients system do too.

Not a Mac person but I would guess the same process to connect your Mac workstation would be used to connect the Macbook. How are you trying to connect?

Mac's have a built-in version of Samba, so one sets

smb://linux8

The current IP of my Macbook is 192.168.1.3 and I can ping it from the others parts of the LAN.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple that is unique to the Macbook/wireless.

Try using the IP address of the server instead of netbios name.

Yes, that did it (though I had tried that in the past).

Many thanks!
