Can I automate downloading email attachments through the command line?

Hello, i am setting up a laptop as a digital picture frame and want to have it be able to download email attachments (photos) and put them in the proper photo so they show up in the slideshow.

Is there a way to download email attachments through the command line/terminal? I figure we'd setup a gmail account.

-thanks

I'm pretty sure you can do that with Kmail. You can setup a filter that will save the attachments to a specified folder whenever the message matches some pattern, e.g. Subject, From, To etc. And Kmail can be setup to poll your mailbox periodically.

The only problem is it's not command line.
