Can't run vdr or kvdr correctly

Hi!
I just found out that suse 9.1 installed by default some video recording packages. I'm trying to run those programs and do some recording, but I keep getting errors.
Apparently I have vdr and kvdr installed. If I issue "vdr" at the console, it says: "vdr: can't access video directory /var/spool/video".
But, strangely, if I launch kvdr, it works. But, after a few unsuccessful keystrokes, the program opens a window saying that it can't connect to the vdr-daemon. Sure it can't, I couldn't launch it! Also, kvdr works very roughly: no sound, and no keyboard listening.

Questions are:

How do I cope with the /var/spool/video problem? The dir exists, and its owner/group is: vdr/root. Why can't vdr access it? Loging as root and trying all this won't solve, I already tried.

How can kvdr display any image without connecting to the daemon?

I'm assuming my pixelview tv card (bttv driver) is qualified to work with vdr, otherwise suse wouldn't have installed it. It receives signal from the tv cable and tvtime works flawlessly with it. The card is installed correctly, but I'm not sure this is the card vdr expects to find. Vdr homepage says something about dvb cards. Can someone tell me?

Thanks everybody!

VDR problems with SuSE

Yes, I get the exact same problem as you, the directory is there, yet vdr complains that it is not accessible. I have tried everything, even creating a new directory and pointing it to that, but to no avail. I will keep searching, if I find anything I will let you know.
