So yeah, I was figuring this thing was ancient and I'd wasted the money upgrading it. Now I'm kind of more hopeful about it. Ha ha.

So yeah, great, did the purge. Installed the trial version with gdebi and then all I had to do was enter a license key to get the full version.

Sorry for being do dumb (LOL). (Does LQ have a Remedial forum?) But I really do appreciate you not giving up on this. (I was on the verge of doing so myself.) Thanks!

So are you going to get out the Xubuntu 64-bit install media now that you know your machine is fancier than you thought? Or do you reckon that it would take you too long to reinstall your system?

I have asked about it before and got all kinds of answers centering around getting a new video card. I don't do much with that home computer (I'm usually pretty brain-dead by the time I get home and get on it) regarding video. I don't know if a re-install would even be worth it.

I don't know why I made that comment about reinstallation. Can I use the brain-dead excuse too? If the operating system is already 64-bit then all is good.
