Angry Can't play CD's

I'm trying to play CD's obviously, however, there are number of hangups. First off, I know the drive works. It functions normally, It is an ATAPI DVD/CD+RW. I can play DVDs on it, and I can mount it, and it plays audio cds j ust fine in windows. So far I have attempted to play cds using xine-ui, kaffeine, xmms, and mplayer.

Here is the error the output from --verbose=1 with xine-ui

Code:
>>> Check if another program already uses PCM <<<
load_plugins: failed to load audio output plugin <alsa>
main: probing <oss> audio output plugin

Killed
Xine-ui brings up the Track Name and CD Title before it kills itself

Kaffeine gives me a popup dialog saying that there is no CD in the drive, but if I switch back to the main window, I can also see the CD Title.

XMMS just kind of sits there and then segfaults.

$ mplayer cdda://1 /dev/hdc gives me this output.

Code:
Warning unknown option cache_min at line 144
Warning unknown option cache_prefill at line 147

Did you try using a dedicated CD player app like kscd or gnome cd player?

dedicated CD players don't work on my system, probably because I don't have a cable from my cd player straight to my soundcard. It plays the CD, I can see the timer ticking, just no sound comes out.
