can't play avi file


Hi, I have raspbmc running on my Raspberry Pi and I can't play a video. The file looks like this:

I tried running on my PC with Fedora and XBMC media center and it looks good. On the Pi I get sound but the video is just coloured boxes.

Any suggestions?

I have zero experience with Pi. Are the proper codecs installed? If you run the video from a command line does it throw up any error messages?

thanks. From my investigation all the codecs should be part of the install (like I never heard that before )

The command line suggestion makes a lot of sense. Thanks. I'll have a tinker tonight

Yes, that's a wise move. Many distributions do not include codecs particularly codecs of the non-free type.
