Can't open audio device. Device or resource busy.

When I play any media file, the sound comes. But when I do it the second time, or may be when I use a different application, I get this error, and I do not get any audio.

What to do? The mplayer code is given below:
Code:
MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.2.3 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (Family: 15, Model: 4, Stepping: 1)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2

Playing andagara-alimayya.mp3.

Try configuring your applications or desktop to use alsa and see if that makes a difference.

You shouldn't be using OSS, any application using OSS locks the audio device for itself. You need to configure your applications to use either ALSA, ESD, arts or any other thing. I just disable OSS on my kernel, since ALSA can still emulate it for applications that can only work with OSS.

Mplayer can use alsa implicitly if you tell it this way:

Code:
mplayer -ao alsa videofile.avi
But it should just use it instead of oss if it's available, so maybe there's some problem with your kernel or there's just some other program that's implicitly using oss.
