I am interested in using Brahms for Linux. Brahms is a KDE music notation program.
I have downloaded a tgz to be used with Linux and KDE 2. I have as far as I know broke open the archive. I have a complex array of files and directories with files to do with Brahms. I then proceeded to follow the install script given for Brahms which is as follows;
tar -xzvf brahms-1.02.tgz
cd brahms
./configure
make
make install
I tried the ./configure command and a list of operations came forth on my terminal (xterm) as far as I can gather there were no errors. I then tried the remainding two commands make and make install. These did not work. When I tried make I got a response some where in the line of
no Makefile specified.
So I then tried the command with the three Make files in both the /Brahms and the /Brahms/Brahms directory still to no avail.
I have read the Manual. the readme file and have looked elsewhere for help. Information on compiling software followed the above script. I have also tried searching for an RPM package for this program but could find none. I would really appreciate any help with this problem. Many thanks

Rep:
well, if ./configure didn't fail (succeded) then it will create a Makefile, but if it fails, it makes no Makefile. Try to run ./configure again, and carefully look at it's output, at the end it should give a bunch of lines such as "creating Makefile.brahms, creating Makefile, etc) in other words many "creating something" lines. If you don't see this, it most likely couldn't find something it needs. Post the output of ./configure so we can help further. If it worked, then issue make from the same place you issued ./configure from (same directory).

I have used your ftp link and downloaded the rpm file from its location in windows. It transfered over to Linux fine however during the unpacking process it asked me for 'cd 3 ?contributions cd' "cd 4" I put all my rpm cd's in and my supplementary applications cd and then the installation program continued. And on subsequent installs did not ask for that cd again. I presume , rightly or wrongly that I have provided all the files I have that it needs from my installation cd's. After the installation I encountered another box listing files that brahms needs and that I think I don't have on my system.
It was a total of nineteen files for example
libartsflow.idl.so.1 <>=s is needed by brahms-1.02-4 mdk
the <>=s is needed by brahms-1.02- mdk was present on all files
I would really appreciate any feedback (pun not intended) on this so I can get the program working.
