Unhappy boot disk required after install -- newbie, first intall attempt

i have installed RedHat 7.1 on a x86 workstation. the machine has a single ide drive, a little over 8gb. i partitioned the drive for a root, a boot and a swap partition as instructed. 1046 cylinders were detected. i was not that concerned, the motherboard is less than a year old and i have updated the bios lately.

after the installation of packages completed the setup wizard advised that there had been an error:

'Warning: dev/hdb is not on the first disk'

and that a boot disk would probably be required.

any clues as to what the problem might be. i

well, hdb woun't be the first disk, as it's ALWAYS the second, hda, hdb, hdc and hdd are the four normal ide slots in order. Make sure that the drive you are using is set up as a primary master. Check the jumper pins and such like, then i guess just reinstall, maybe you wouldn't need to, but i'd asume that a fairly fundamental flaw...

as for the 1046 cylinders, that doesn't matter, the /boot partition needs to be inside the 1024 limit, nothign else.

any use?
