Bluefish editor 2.2.9: cannot change background

Code:
# uname -a
Linux myserver 4.9.0-13-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.228-1 (2020-07-05) x86_64 GNU/Linux
MATE 1.16.2 BlackMATE theme with Dopple Window Border.

I prefer a dark theme. It's easier on my eyes.

Everything else in Bluefish will change, but not the background.

Edit > Preferences > Fonts & Colors > Background color

I change this to a dark color, and nothing happens. Again, I can change the font color, or cursor color, or font size, or anything else, but not the background color.

I have also gone into "Text styles" it also does nothing.

Sounds like a bug in Bluefish then - their issue tracker is at https://sourceforge.net/p/bluefish/tickets/

Though first you should upgrade, because the changelog includes:
Quote:
A new feature in the 2.2.10 release is the possibility to import/export syntax color styles, included are styles for a light and a dark theme.

My dog, it's complicated!
I just tried.
To get the dark theme, you have to:
  1. Go to Preferences => Editor Settings => Fonts & Colors
  2. UNcheck "Use system wide color settings"
  3. Import a color profile, e.g. by choosing /usr/share/bluefish/colorprofiles/Dark_Theme and clicking the "Apply" button to the right of it.
  4. This will close the Preferences window. You have to now re-open it and go to Preferences => Editor Settings => Fonts & Colors
  5. Finally, click the Apply button at the bottom of the Preferences window.
=> dark theme!

You lost me here: "Import a color profile, e.g. by choosing /usr/share/bluefish/colorprofiles/Dark_Theme and clicking the "Apply" button to the right of it."

I can find no option to import a color profile.

Do I need version 2.2.10 to do that?

I did an 'apt dist-upgrade' to upgrade Devuan from Ascii to Beowulf.

This upgraded Bluefish from 2.2.9 to 2.2.10.

That fixed the problem. I did not have to do anything else.
