Blender binary file fails to open

Okay.. I am a very new newbie!

I have attempted to install blender versions 2.30, 2.25 and 2.28 from both rpm and tar files. The tars unpack without trouble then when I go to execute the binary

./blender

error: while loading shared libraries libstdc++-libc6.2-2so.3 :cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

I located libstdc++ it does exist on my system but I have not found libc6.2-2so.3 on my system - or any reference to it whatsoever online.

for the rpms i have another error..

blender-2.30-1mdk.i586.rpm

error: failed dependencies
python-imaging-1.1.4-2mdk
libpython2.3.so.1.0

I have since then attempted to install both.

libpython2.32.3-2.3-3mdk.i586.rpm
error: unpacking of archive failed.

python-imaging-1.1.4-2mdk.1586.rpm
error: failed dependencies
python base 2.3
libtcl8.4.so
libtk8.4.so

I have had a friend help me install python2.3 successfully. But the PIL is yet to function (I am also trying to install sketch with no success).

Any help here would be greatly apreciated.

I had the same thing happen trying to start blender after a fresh linux install. I located a package that contained this library by doing a google search. After installing the package, blender started up ok.

You could instead, download the static version of blender and try that.
