Hello I have just installed Bittorrent but I have a little problem. I followed the procedre of
./configure --with-gtk
su
make
make install
ldconfig
exit
that went well. I have all the requirements installed being "python" and "wxpython". I edit the mailcap located in the "/etc" directory. I use the following.
###
### Begin Mandrake Linux Mailcap
###
audio/mod; /usr/bin/mikmod %s
# play is apparently a security hole.
#audio/*; /usr/bin/play %s
I then go to my favourite Torrent site click on the torrent and I get a error message. also have "btdownloadgui.py" associated with bittorrent files in "file associations". This seems to what I as instructed to do. Thanks again.
I use azureus, (its a lot nicer than the mainline client) and i find it easier (i use epiphany, maybe its harder in other browsers) to right click the torrent link, click copy link address, then go to azureus, click open url and then click ok. it sounds harder but its only a tiny bit harder and easily worth it.
What I do
1) Right click on the link and select copy link address or something similar to that
2) Open up a terminal (xterm, Rxvt, konsole, etc)
3) Type the path of BitTorrent and then paste (shift+insert) URL
BitTorrent should then download the file(s). However you may want to pick a destination where all the files BitTorrent will be place or you will run into space problems.
I agree with the Azureus recommendation. I experienced enough grief with the bittorrent client that I went looking. Azureus shows much more information and all you need for it to run is java. No need to worry about having your client not work everytime you update your system (python seems to be constantly "improving").
