Post Best Window Manager

Hi everyone,

This is a pretty basic question. Just for fun.

What in ur opinion is the best window manager around. I like KDE, but people like Gnome. I like KDE because I like its ease of use and the desktop. Lets see what others have got to say.

Thanks.

Aghh with the red. I like the poll but the question should be what is your favourite not what is more popular, thats not an opinion thing.

I like kde. I like the eye candy and i think gnome looks dumb. Enlightenment was alright but there was a bunch of things i hated. Fluxbox and blackbox are both decent, however I still like kde more.

Hi Boffy,

My opinion is, one leads to the other. I guess, if more people are using KDE (results till now), it means KDE is more popular, it is so because it is favoured by more people. Just a thought.

Guys, I have tried out several WM like Gnome and IceWM. But always came back to KDE. It is eye-candy and is functional. Also it is developing fast and specific applications are made for it like kmix, konqueror.

Here is link to a page with comparisons between different WM:
http://xwinman.org/comparisons.html

WindowMaker has Application dock which is different from KDE. It is quite handy, and those with slow machines will find this nice.

Thanks

Depends of day . Flux is nice, but I've used much more blackbox then Fluxbox. In this box I'm now I'm running KDE. I use a lot of KDE tools, specially Knotes (yup, it's true). Though, in another box running SuSE 8.2 Pro, I'm testing Ximian Desktop 2, and it's pretty nice.

I voted for KDE, but it really depends of the day

Why gnome? It may look a little slicker but its features are worse and its compatability with kde applications is so poor I can't get away with it.

Hi,

I think Gnome is based on Metacity. Which is also available separately. Is Gnome just a theme of Metacity then?

There's a problem with this poll because Gnome does not have an integrated window manager. You use Gnome+ Enlightment, or IceWM, or Metacity, or...

As far as I'm concerned, I wanted to vote for Matchbox, but it isn't there so I voted for IceWM, because I think it is a nice WM for beginners with a not-very-powerfull PC.

Yves.
