batch watermarking software

I run a Joomla powered site and use a third party component to upload pictures. It does not have an option to watermark images, but I would like to. The easiest way I can think of is to run a script that will enter a directory and attach a watermark to all the images in that directory. Set up cron and let it run, so images get watermarked on a constant basis and the watermark is sized correctly to the picture. Is there a program that has this ability? If so where can I find it. Any other ways I can accomplish this?

Thanks
