badblocks command

Hello Guys

Has anybody used "badblocks " before . I have
a 1 Tb disk that after I performed an e2fs -fy
shows me that some blocks are bad , even if I re-format the disk and re-run the file check the block are shown as bad . I would like to
mark them as bad so that the system stops trying to write on them . Can this command achieve this task ? if so , how to use it ?

Thanks

the manpage of badblocks says that it can be used with e2fsck and mke2fs programs using the -c option of the latter progs.
as far as I understand badblocks is called by them. when creating an ext2/3 filesystem those blocks will not be used.
