Backspace problem in Aterm - ^?

Using Fedora Core 1
Aterm v0.4.2
Vim v6.2
Fluxbox v0.9.8

Using Vim in Aterm, I get ^? when I press <--- (backspace) instead of deleting to the left.

I've tried using xterm, gnome-terminal and in console and all seem fine except aterm.

In aterm, Ctrl+<--- seems to work fine, why not just <--- ??

Any ideas?
