back end of growisofs

Hi linuxers,
I use growisofs to burn image or data files into DVDs.

In its manpage it refered that it's a
combined genisoimage frontend/DVD recording program.

while in genisoimage's manpage

Note that genisoimage is not designed to communicate with the writer directly. Most writers have proprietary command sets which vary from one manufacturer to another, and you need a specialized tool to actually burn the disc. wodim is one such tool. The latest version of wodim is available from http://www.cdrkit.org/

So,genisoimage still is a front end program.

so when my using growisfo to burn something, which bin was used to actually do the burning job?wodim?

I am using debian 5.0.4

genisoimage is for making the images. Yes, wodim does the actual burning.

genisoimage is a dead fork from a _very_ outdated version of mkisofs.
genisoimages misses many of the features that are in mkisofs since
many years.

wodim only occasionally writes DVDs as it does not include the DVD
support code that was developped for cdrecord and wodim does not
include BluRay support at all.

If you like to use software that does not create continous
headache, I recommend to use the maintained original software
from: ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/aplha/

http://cdrecord.berlios.de/
