Awstats run locally

My hosting service no longer offers awstats or webalizer for doing web site stats. They still offer the access logs so I'm trying to understand how to run awstats locally. From what I understand so far, it is possible to install awstats on a local machine, download log files, and create a report locally. I've searched forums where ever I can find them, but I'm having no luck getting any instruction re how to do this. I've searched Sourceforge, the awstats site, etc. The awstats documentation seems a bit sketchy and doesn't offer any real detail or examples. I'd appreciate it if someone could offer some examples re how to use awstats on mageia 6.1. Thank you.

Just follow any awstats tutorial and enter the correct path to where you’re putting the log files.
