auto run applications (eg Mplayer when inserting a DVD)

I'm wondering if there is some way to automatically launch a given program when a CD or DVD is inserted.

For instance, when running 'doze, Power DVD launches automatically when I put a video DVD in my reader...

Anyone heard of such a functionality in Linux?
