authored dvd unplayable

Hi,

I'm having troubles playing a movie dvd I authored using dvdauthor on my dvd player.

I made a dvd from some home movies and a slide show with a simple menu that allows to choose which movie to play. I can perfectly play the produced files using xine; when written to the dvd, xine also plays it perfectly.

However, when I put the dvd in my standalone player, I does not get past the menu; whichever button I choose, the machine/dvd hangs.

I tried to do the same on a Windows machine, using a program called 'PowerDirector" (it was on a CD that came with the machine), and the produced dvd plays very well on my standalone player and xine plays it as well. However, I don't like the menus it produces, and anyway, this is a machine from work.

So far I can only think the problem is with dvdauthor; but I can't explain why xine would play the dvd and my player would not. I'm pretty sure the problem is not the media (DVD+RW and DVD-RW; tried them both)

The dvd is produced by making an iso with mkisofs, which then is burnt using K3b; I also tried it burning directly using growisofs, but the result is the same.

the command line I use with mkisofs is:

mkisofs -dvd-video -o dvd.iso home/joris/dvd/

Also here is my dvdauthor.xml

<dvdauthor dest="/home/joris/dvd" jumppad="yes" >

<video format="pal" resolution="720x576" />
<pgc entry="title" >

</dvdauthor>

(for those wondering, Henri is the name of my son)

By the way, I'm using dvdauthor 0.6.11 I which got from sourceforge and compiled on my system. I can't remember the version numbers of the other tools I needed to installe, but I'll look them up if necessary.

Anyone any clues as to what I'm doing wrong ?
Anyone experienced the same problem ? Basically I want to make a dvd that's playable on my/any standalone player, not just on my pc with xine...

Thanks in advance for your time and your answer.

you have to have dvd complient mpeg2 video. The resolution has to meet dvd specs to play on your stand alone dvd player. goto www.videohelp.com or www.doom9.org for more help.
