Hello, sorry about the lack of better thread title. All daemons such as Amorak, Audacious, K3b are configured on my Slackware. My flac audio files are fine and play in both services. Similarly my cd rom drive plays fine when logged in as root ( there are some permission issues when logged in as user ).

There definitely no mute on the speaker icon showing in the task bar. Yet, I don't hear anything when the media is playing.

There does't seem to be any central control utility for audio. Can anyone throw some light on this.

I am using Slackware 12

slackware does not automatically add you to certain groups such as audio video plugdev burner or similar words.

with root powers add those groups to your login id pls see onebuck's answer here
