audacity. can record once fine, but then the sound goes weird

im using kubuntu (breezy) and trying to get to grips with audacity in anticipation of the arival of my laptop

however, if i try and record a second track, the sound is quite a bit lower in pitch and very muffled/distorted. does anyone know what is going on? it is weird that it is fine on the first track, but not any others. also, if i delete all the tracks it will record the first one fine again....

thanks

I haven't experienced the pitch problem myself but have seen it reported.

There is a similar problem here...
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...audacity+pitch

In the Audacity forum there is a Jan 8, 2006, post by alexbrown where he reports that a former problem that involved pitch has been resolved in version 1.2.4.
http://audacityteam.org/forum/forum....=thread&id=517

You might want to check to see that you have the latest version of Audacity.

Good Luck

thank you very much for your reply, it is very helpful! i have got audacity 1.2.3, so its just a shade away from where it was hopefully fixed. unfortunately, i have never had much luck in compiling things from source, and the ubuntu repositories are only giving me the 1.2.3 version precompiled.

so, maybe i will have luck in compiling it.... *hopes*
