Audacity adjustments needed

I have two questions involving the program Audacity.
1) Is there a way to save settings such as input level and input source after a reboot? I guess I should mention that I am running Puppy installed to the harddrive. I can't leave the machine running so that wouldn't be an option.
2) I recorded a vocal track and then recorded a second track while listening to the first. Upon playback of the two tracks together, I discovered that the second track was an octive lower. I didn't change the bit rate or the sample rate. These are the stock settings. It seems that it recorded that way because the playback of the second track by itself didn't change the way it sounded. Any ideas? Thanks for looking

no way i know of to save settings.
while i don't use audacity for multitracking i can speculate.
try to change the new track (or both tracks) to mono if its stereo or the other way around to stereo (i guess they should be the same)
the interaction between alsa hal layer and your sound card driver might also be the source of the problem.
sounds like it might even be a bit conversion since you say its an octave.
there are alot of things that can be done with the ~/.asoundrc file.
i guess try the sereo thing and if its still messed up write back with soundcard details.

audacity is really just an audio editor. you might want to take the step to using ardour instead to record.
