Associate Calibre epub-viewer with epub and mobi extensions?

How do I associate Calibre with the epub and mobi extensions so that when I right-click on one of these files, the file is opened in Calibre's epub-viewer? (I have Cinnamon Mint 15)

Thanks.

There should be a setting called "File Configurations" on your File Manager. Since you give no information about what distro, File Manager and desktop you're using it is impossible to give you more detail than that. I use Konqueror and right-clicking on a file brings up a menu with an item "Open with..." and the last item is "Other..." which allows you to specify Caliber for an epub file (if that's what you clicked on). If you need more help please provide information about your system.

I have Cinnamon Mint 15, with the Nemo 1.8.2 File Manager. Everything is from the default installation (except for Calibre and a couple other programs)

Where do I find this File Configurations for Nemo?

When I right click an epub file, then Open With, I get Audacious, Disk Usage Analyzer, Files, Other Applications. When I open Other Applications I get
Document Viewer as a Recommend Application and a list of Other Applications which does not include the already installed Calibre. Neither Document Viewer nor the other programs will read epub files.

I know Calibre is installed because if I open Calibre up I can read an epub file through the program--but as I said I want to open up a file by right-clicking.

Now when I use Windows XP and want to associate a file with a progrma that will give me a default program, then a list of alternatives, but then I can browse to any directory, sub-directory and do an association with anything--why can't I do this here?

Getting back to Nemo. While it doesn't allow me to search for and find Calibre it does say:
"Find Applications Online"

The first time I ran this it told me I needed to install something which I did (although I don't remember
the name--How do I find out what I installed?)

Now I get the following (completely uninformative to me) error message:

Failed to Look for Applications Online
GDBus.Errorrg.freedesktop.DBus.Python.xdg.Exceptions.ParsingError: Traceback (most recent call last):

I don't use Nemo so I can't answer that question. I explained how to do it for Konqueror but I guess Nemo does not have that capability. KDE has a 2nd File Manager called Dolphin. Again if you right-click on a file and select "Open with..." it will offer a series of choices. If you don't see what you want then you select "Other..." and then you can enter the application of your choice. Caliber is NOT included in the initial list which is why you must select "Other...".

You failed to mention what DE you are using. I guess it's Mate but I could be wrong. I use KDE so again I can't tell you exactly where to look but only where to look in KDE and assume that Mate (or you can google it). In Konqueror you go to the Settings menu and select the item "Configure Konqueror". You click on that and you get a large number of choices of things to configure. Under the category "File Management" you select "File Associations" and add Calibre to the list of files associated with the .epub .mobi, etc. extensions.

If you do it on a system-wide basis you go into the Mate menu and look for System Settings (remember I have no idea what it's called in Mate). You should find a "File Associations" item among the choices.

Doing a very quick search using Mate desktop File Associations, I found this link which may answer your question. It talks about Nemo. More than this I cannot do.

I included a link to the Linux Mint forum which appeared to address your question. Did you look at the link and did it solve your problem? Here's another one: http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=105536

Calibre does not shows

I use Debian Wheezy and Gnome 2/Mate, but Calibre does not appear in the list of softwares offered in the "others" panel (though the package is here and Calibre appears in the "Applications" list, in the "bureautique" section)...

Hi and welcome to LQ. Please note that this thread is over 1.5 years old. What file manager are you using? When you right-click on a given file a menu appears. You select the item Open with. Another menu then appears with a some suggestions as to what you can open the file with. The final item is Other.... You then get a search bar where you can navigate to the application of your choice and select it to open your file. On my system Calibre is found in the /usr/bin folder so I navigate to that folder and then select calibre amongst the very large group of files that are found in that folder. And yes, it is also found in the "Office" (fr. bureautique) section.
