What distribution (version) of Linux are you using? ("Linux 5.1" does not tell us which version)
On just about any distro, Thunderbird will be available in the package manager.
If you need to install manually, tell us what kind of file you downloaded. e.g.: If it is a .tar.gz, you would first extract it using "tar -xzvf <filename>" Then go into the folder and look for a "README"

yum install thunderbird
You should now see thunderbird under applications - internet.
The use of yum will install it automatically for you. This also gets the program installed so that any updates can be applied automatically in the future since it installs from the main repository.
