apt-get locked

Hello -

When I try to use apt-get install I get the following error:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (@ No suck file or directory)

E: Unable to lock the adminstration directory (/var/lib/dpkg), are you root?

I get this error when I try apt-get with sudo and when I am the root user.

seems to imply that I could be running 2 copies of apt to get this error. I dont know how that would happen though or how I could confirm it.

Can anyone help?

Try ps aux |grep apt (or grep dpkg) and see how many processes come up. You can also try lsof |grep dpkg and see what process is using the file (and then kill it).

nothing seems to be using apt or dpkg tho...
