APT forcing install of CUPS

I removed cups, as this box is going to be a headless server with no need for any printing, using "apt-get remove --purge cups" and it removed it.

Now, I'm stuck with this problem:

Code:
root@kate:/etc/init.d# apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  cups cups-driver-gutenprint ghostscript-cups libcupscgi1 libcupsdriver1 libcupsmime1 libgutenprint2 libijs-0.35 libslp1
0 upgraded, 9 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 4,502 kB of archives.
After this operation, 17.6 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n
Abort.
I can't install/update anything without it wanting cups back.

Maybe try using the following might work:
Code:
apt-get remove --purge cups cups-driver-gutenprint ghostscript-cups libcupscgi1 libcupsdriver1 libcupsmime1 libgutenprint2 libijs-0.35 libslp1
Seeing as how if cups is trying to be reinstall, there is most likely a package still installed on your system that contains libraries that points to cups. Worth a shot...

Damn. Try the following and see what comes up:

Code:
dpkg-query -W -f='${Status} ${Package}\n' | grep cups

Code:
root@kate:~# dpkg-query -W -f='${Status} ${Package}\n' | grep cups
install ok installed cups-bsd
install ok installed cups-client
install ok installed cups-common
install ok installed cups-pk-helper
install ok installed cups-ppdc
install ok installed libcups2
install ok installed libcupsimage2
install ok installed libcupsppdc1
install ok installed python-cups
install ok installed python-cupshelpers
Trying to remove those packages makes apt want to remove most of my system, so no go.

Solved, had to remove the first few of those packages by hand, up to libcups.

Glad to hear it's fixed. I knew something else had to be installed in your system.
