Question Apache forward proxy issue (timeout not honored)

I am using Apache 2.2.22 as a forward proxy and I have a java application this is having an issue where its timeout is not being honored. When not using a proxy (dev site) the applications timeout is honored. This is leading to calls out that should fail within the applications timeout configured but remain open.

I've not had any luck. I setup a Proxy setting block for that URL with a timeout of 1 and the application set to 2 seconds, but the application did not timeout.

I'm at a loss. I don't understand why the timeout is not honored.

I'm not a programmer, but in testing we can reliably recreate this behavior.

Has anyone run across this behavior?

Not enough info provided. A wild guess is that Keep-Alive is active.
