Apache 2.2.8 up and running but failing to display index.html from htdocs dir

Hi,

I have installed apache 2.2.8,, the install was sucessfull and the apache service starts, however when I browse to http://servername/PREXFIX/htdocs from the same box I get a browser error " Not Found : The requested URL /usr/local/apache2/htdocs was not found on this server"
IF I browse to just https://servername i gert the "IT work message displayed in the browser so I know my browser works can can see the machine name as specified in httpd.conf.

I checked the error_log in apache and there is a entry
ERROR: file does not exist /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/usr

I though it could be a permissions so changed htdocs to 777.

I also confirmed in httpd.conf that the document root was set to /usr/local/apache2/htdocs.

Any help on this would be great, only started using linux in the last few months, never know how much work goes into configuring linux, it can be tough but worth the effort in the end.. ( I hope )

cheers

I am a bit baffled by what you are trying to do. As far as I know, you simply enter http://servername, http://servername/file or http://servername/dir/file in order to see your web documents. These will be the docs stored in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs and you don't enter something like http://servername/PREFIX/htdocs. It could be that I don't understand what you are trying to do.
